AUSTIN YOUTH RIVER WATCH

Austin Youth River Watch (AYRW) empowers youth through a nature-based, experiential, and service-oriented after-school and summer program in environmental science. Their mission is to transform and inspire underserved youth through environmental education, community engagement, and adventure. As a result of AYRW’s work, youth are better prepared to create positive outcomes for themselves and the environment, ensuring a better future for all.

WHY PARTNER WITH TYAN?

Through their partnership with TYAN, AYRW aims to provide more formalized pathways for youth leadership and feedback in creating curriculum, activities, and responsibility within the organization.

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • AYRW maintains 28 water quality sites throughout Austin and 12 parks/greenways for ecological restoration.

  • AYRW’s students were key in designing and constructing multiple green infrastructure projects, which helped prevent flooding and property damage in East Austin at Navarro High School and Hornsby Bend.
